Bourgogne Red Wine Seminar @ Enoteca Marunouchi Lounge

This is my fourth wine seminar.

I finally start understanding what Sensei (teacher and sommelier) is saying or lecturing.

Today I tasted five glasses and they are

2014 Morey-Saint-Denis

2016 Chambolle-Musigny

2015 Volnay

2016 Francois Lumpp

2015 Cote de Brouilly

The very right glass is Beaujolais.

Beaujolais wine is very popular among Japanese so I usually have a glass or more every season.

Today. this glass surprised me.

It is whitish, must be bottom portion of bottle, and smell of ANIMAL like Jibie.

The smell is so strong; therefore, I couldn’t finish a glass…

I am not exaggerating; my friends agreed!

After the lesson, my friend gave me these souvenirs from Seoul.

So sweet of her!

Christmas 2018

I’ve been sick and I’ve been sleeping.

I’ve done what I should do in Christmas such as watching Christmas illuminations (I’ve watched Tokyo Midtown Roppongi and Marunouchi), are a whole chicken which I bought from COSTCO the other day and decorated the house for Christmas; but I totally forgot to plan my Christmas on Christmas Day.

The blessing were I received Christmas gifts from the States and Choco is here to keep me a company.

I dressed Choco up to Santa.

Choco Santa with Reindeer

But he doesn’t want to wear Santa clothing.

He won’t move with Santa outfit.

Well, there are many people outside to see Christmas illuminations at Tokyo Midtown Roppongi.

The management of Tokyo Midtown Roppongi even placed fences to manage the crowd.

To cut through the line, I need to get a special pass for it.

In 2018, I had only gym session for Christmas event on 25 December 2018 at 6 pm.

I dressed up and put make up as if I’m going out for dinner because my gym session was at dinner time.

Next Christmas, I will plan better by not getting sick.

Shibamata Taishakuten (Shibamata Taishakuten Temple)

Shibamata is located in Tokyo and the place is famous for Shibamata Taishakuten (Shibamata Taishakuten Temple) and the filming place for the series of movie named Otoko wa Tsuraiyo (Being Man is Tough).

Though it’s located in Tokyo and the temple is famous, this would be my first time visiting this temple and temple town.

On the way, I took a bus from Kanamachi Eki (Kanamachi Station); therefore, I got off near the Sando (Commercial Road to Temple).

If you take train, Keisei Line, to Shibamata Eki (Shibamata Station), then Tora san (the main character of the movie) and Sakura chan (sister) will welcome you at the Station.

There are many attractive stores standing next to each other all the way to the temple.

I was tempted to try fresh traditional local food, but I forced myself to visit temple for prayer.

The main entrance of the temple.

There are many people coming for prayer.

I tried a fortune paper…. I pulled the Good Luck.

Everything gonna be as I wish! Yeahhhhh

After praying, we continued for sightseeing.

This temple is famous for curving.

I found my zodiac: Rat.

There are many Buddha’s stories.

This curving describes trying not to look down and treat people equally, yet suffering from persecution.

Nonetheless, there is always a light for guidance.

There are many dragons are curved or drawn at this temple.

After admiring curving, we admired Japanese garden, Suikei-En (Suikei Garden).

This is a nice Japanese garden.

Many prototypes of curving are displayed there.

Chandeliers look antique.

There is a Byobu (folding curtain) drawn by famous Japanese painter, Yokoyama Taikan (Taikan Yokoyama).

And this is the main room with the most important Kakejiku (hanging scroll) with the Japan’s largest nandin alcove post which skewered to the roof.

We also admired the garden from outside.

There is a well of Goshinsui (Holly Water).

Of course, I washed my both hands.

And this must be the main entrance of the garden with the garden’s signage.

Now it’s time to enjoy food!

We had a brunch today so we are ready for nice meal after a walk.

We had local specialty Unagi (eel) at Kawachiya.

We took a window side table on the second floor.

The view from window was nice; I can see the main gate of temple.

I had Unaju (Eel Rice Bowl), kimo roll (Eel Liver Roll) and Koi Arai (carp raw fish).

I enjoyed both side dishes very much.

Then I went to look for desserts: Kudamochi (mugwort ball).

I enjoyed Yoshinoya’s very much; these are fresh, warm, soft and rich with mugwort!

I also tried another shop’s Kusamochi, Takagiya.

I enjoyed visiting the temple and temple town.

I would love to come back again.

Choco was patiently waited for us at home.

I wanted to take him out for stretch so we went Gaston & Gasper for dinner.

I’m glad to know that we can all sit together inside.

Cheers Choco!

2 January 2019

I started my new year morning with Shishimai (lion dance) and Masuzake (Japanese sake in a wooden square cup).

After experiencing Japanese traditional new year, we went for Belgium breakfast at my favorite breakfast restaurant: Le Pain Quoitidien, Tokyo Midtown Roppongi.

I had New Year Special Menu.

I started with a glass of sparkling wine to celebrate 2019.

Off course, I enjoyed all food.

Furthermore, I received a new year gift from the restaurant: Fukin (Japanese traditional kitchen cloth) and a ticket for free audio museum guide.

After heavy brunch, I played with little niece at Hinoki-cho Park.

Though we had a heavy brunch, we enjoyed strawberry tea with Phillips Chocolate the Boston’s Oldest Chocolateir for tea break.

Coincidently, I used a mug that I bought it at Pier 1 Imports in Boston.

We relaxed a bit at home and went for grocery shopping; I cooked Yakiniku (Korean BBQ) for dinner.

Can I call BBQ cooking ? hahaha

We are spending New Year in very traditional way: relaxing family gathering.

2 December 2018

It is the day to hand over my apartment keys back to the agent.

I lived here for 9 years and 4 months.

I was very sentimental when I returned keys because there are so many memories.

There were goods and bads – I was happy.

I closed one chapter and moved on to another.

I celebrated my new start at Italian Restaurant Osteria Dieci, Azabu-Junan, Tokyo that night.

I had nice Italian wine: Monte Del Fra, and

Nice Italian food.

Choco also celebrated with me.

He had an appetizer (dried lean chicken) and main dish (chicken and vegetables).

We are adding this restaurant on our favorites.

1 December 2018

It is Choco’s graduation day.

We participated 10 lessons to find a way to live together comfortably.

Three months ago, I was worried, but now I’m confident and happy to live with him.

There was a set of test.

Though we didn’t pass all tests coz some are not relevant to our life style, we enjoyed participating the test.

Others are better trained but I found they participated in kindergarten to get extra training.

No wonder.

Choco received a diploma from Familina Garden Minami-Aoyama.

Good Job, Choco!

29 November 2018

I was invited for dinner reception hosted by C-ASTEC (Chubu Aerospace Industrial Technology Centre: Nagoya/Chubu Area Aerospace Industrial Cluster) at Italian Restaurant Al Porto, Tokyo Big Sight.

I returned to Tokyo Big Sight at the evening.

First, I was hesitated to attend alone but it became a fun evening.

I watched a free projection mapping show when I arrived Tokyo Big Sight.

Then I enjoyed talking to aerospace players from Nagoya (Japan), Germany, Singapore and Malaysia with nice Italian wine and food.

28 November 2018

I attended Opening Reception of Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2018.

The event received many people in uniform (military) and they all wearIng many stars. hahaha

The scale of event was rather small because the event was squeezed in 2018.

The next event supposed to be held in 2020 but we won’t be able to host any event there because Tokyo Big Sight, the trade fair venue, will convert to the press center for Tokyo Olympics 2020.

I managed to meet all contacts that I wanted to follow up at JA 2018.

At the evening, I participated a wine lesson on Champagne at Enoteca Marunouchi.

I tasted following champagnes:

Philippe Glavier

Nomine Renard

2008 Henriot

2012 Louis Roederer

C’est si bon!

16 November 2018

It’s been a while – two weeks? – since I posted last blog.

I’ve been physically and mentally tired because I cannot get a proper break.

I am demotivated because after completing all projects I thought I can get a break; but my boss didn’t approve my leave because he plans to take leave.

Yes, I’m very frustrated.

I should think of good time so I decide to post old dates.

On 16 November 2018, I planned a mariage styled dinner at French Restaurant IIZAKA, Yotsuya 3-chome.

Chef Iizaka served for few Ambassadors as their residence Chef.

The couple closed the restaurant just for five of us because if there were others, timing of food would be different from tables and they want to serve food at the best condition.

All dishes were like art.

Sommelier (wife) selected nice wine to match these delicate food.

I had my first Beaujolais of the year which was released on 15 November 2018.

Both my stomach and heart were satisfied with nice food & wine and their hospitality.

This is the restaurant that I surely want to return.

Design Day

I joined the Design Tour to be with my colleague for a day.

First, we visited Good Design Marunouchi.

Currently, 50 juries are introducing their best G-Mark winner products here.

Yes, I spotted Haku Accessories.

I can wear gold plated jewelry like a sticker.

First, cut the tape to suitable length, then remove the plastic film, place the jewelry on my skin, wet the paper so that it will stick.

We can buy some of these G-Mark winners’ product at Good Design Store Tokyo by Nohara at KITTE

We continue our trip to Ueno Station, Hard Rock Ueno Station.

Then walked AmeYoko (American Street).

I had a Kebab for lunch.

We stretched to Akihabara to visit Hobby Building, Radio-Kan (Radio House).

We returned to Roppongi to visit Design Hub.

We could get information on other G-Mark winners that is difficult to display the actual product such as urban development.

We did enough exercise for a day.

My friend wants to eat Unagi (eel) for dinner so I took her to my favorite eel shop, Shojikiya, Roppongi.

We continued our coffee, Starbucks Christmas Drink Strawberry Shortcake Frappuccino, at her room.

We often communicate via emails and WhatsApp; it was nice spending time together!

Hope to see you soon again!
