Trip to Izu (Day 1)

I’ll be away for few days so needed to clear my refrigerator.

I don’t want to waste vegetables; therefore, I made a power vegetable juice.

I think the recipe is good: a lots of spinach, celery, parsley and lemon.

And I think this is good because it was BITTER…

I took Marine Express Odoriko Go.

I was surprised because the coach is Narita Express (an express train for Narita Airport).

Is it recycled…? Reused…?

A seat is dressed for Marine/Izu Peninsular to stimulate our holiday spirit.

After 2.5 hour journey, I arrived at Izu Atagawa Station.

I didn’t know there is a hotel shuttle bus waiting for us; I was about to miss it.

Luckily, I spotted it and waved to stop the bus.

According to Google Map, it’s only 6 mins walk from station to hotel; but Nooooo, it’s much farther.

Once again, luckily, I managed to catch a hotel shuttle bus. Fuuuuu

Our room is spacious.

Left door leads us to a toilet, washroom and bathroom.

Right door is a storage.

And fusuma (the main sliding door)…

We went to get a Welcome Drink (Hot Yuzu citrus Honey) at a hotel coffee shop.

Then changed into yukata (I could pick yukata design) to take a bath.

It was nice to dip into an open-air bath overlooking Sagami Wan (Sagami Bay).

Okay, burned few calories and refreshed by taking a bath; READY TO EAT!

I had a glass of Sapporo draft beer produced at nearby Shizuoka Factory.

Beer must be fresh; it was clear and smooth!!

And…

After dinner, I became so full; my body is still warm from dipping in hot spring…ready to sleep…

Golf @ Satsuki Golf Club Kanuma Course

I played golf yesterday (on 19 December 2016).

I usually go to golf by car, but this time, we took train.

It’s our Year-End golf and we plan to have Year-Emd party with drinks after the game.

The game starts at 9:30 am; therefore, I took 7:42 train (Kegon 1).

This train goes all the way to Nikko where there is a nice shrine named Nikko Toshogu.

One day I will introduce Nikko when I visit there.

The weather was very nice (sunny, warm and no wind), perfect for a golf game.

However, my game wasn’t good; I just couldn’t hit right.

After nine was better, after lunch.

I had Genghis Khan (lamb) for lunch and it was nice.

Other than my game, everything was nice: golf course, weather, food, bath, fee (my friend had a special discount) and Year-End Party food.

It was just my game… boo hoo

Interesting Sunday from Wine Tasting to Ichiran Tonkotsu Ramen

I went to Roppongi Midtown (shopping complex) to buy thermal shirts at Uniqlo.

Before I do some shopping, I thought it’s better to get a point card.

I was informed that it takes one hour to prepare a point card cum credit card (free annual membership with benefits).

Fortunately or unfortunately, there is a free and charged wine tasting area.

While waiting for my point card to get ready, I tried a ship of numerous wines…

And nice (charged) wines.

This is a glass of Corton Clos Du Roi 2010 (USD 80 per bottle).

and Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2013 (USD 430 per bottle).

The price for tasting these two wines (20 mil each) and a pair of wine glasses to bring back for USD 30.

It was fun.

Did I go to Uniqlo? No…decided to go for dinner.

I found a nice Ramen shop: Ichiran.

It’s been there, but I’ve never tried this one.

After buying a ticket from the vending machine (not much of choice, either simple ramen with char siu (sliced of porks) and negi (leeks) for JPY 710/USD 7.1 or with hanjuku tamago (half boiled egg) for JPY 910/USD 9.1), I had to wait to be assisted.

According to a board, the store was full house.

Then, I was led to my cubicle and asked to fill up  how I want my Ramen to be prepared: strength of flavor, oiliness, amount of garlic, with or without leeks, with or without char siu, secret recipe spicy sauce, hardness of noodle and any additional request such as more garlics and secret spicy sauce for additional cost.

This is how my cubicle looks like.

A half boiled egg was served first.

It’s hard to see a store staff over a cloth curtain, but after serving my Ramen, wooden curtain was closed to give me a total privacy. hahaha

If you like Tonkotsu Ramen (thick pork flavoured Ramen), Ichiran is highly recommended.

If you like a spicy ramen, you can request secret recipe spicy sauce to level 10 for free.

I tried 1/2 for a beginner.

This Ramen is very gooooooood!

Tai: Red Snapper

Today, Mom brought me many Tai (red snapper).

To celebrate happiness, happy outcomes and congratulate somebody, we use red snapper.

Why…? Because red snapper in Japanese is Tai.

The word to celebrate happiness, happy outcomes and congratulate somebody is Medetai.

There is Tai (red snapper) hidden in the word.

Look there are many Tai!

These are ingredients for Ochazuke (rice soup).

Prepare Tai, dashi (stock gelee) and rice.

Pour dashi gelee on rice.

Place a Tai on rice and pour hot water.

Mix.

Quick, simple but delicious!

Then she also brought Osumashi (soup) in Tai.

Pour hot water.

Mix well.

Tai surely made me and my stomach happy!

Sea Urchin and the Els Golf Tag

I received more surprised today.

I received sea urchin from Kitakyushu, Fukuoka.

It’s nice to eat with hot plain rice.

These bottles were in a box of paulownia, most formal way to send a gift.

I will keep this box and make it to a jewelry box by making partitions.

And I received another parcel from Malaysia.

Yeah! I received my Els’ golf tag!

Thank you, Santa!

Restaurant under a Rail Way: Ton Ton, Hibiya

I went to an interesting restaurant: Ton Ton in Hibiya.

This restaurant is situated under a rail way.

The restaurant has the taste of Showa Era (1970s…?).

I ordered a glass of red wine and was served as if it is a glass of sake. hahaha

Ate varieties of Yakitori (skewers).

The restaurant is reasonable; a glass of wine is USD 4.00 and one skewer USD 1.60.

English menu is available.

This restaurant is highly recommended to go!

Japanese Traditional Gift Wrapping

The other day, I visited my friend and her new born baby.

He is adorable.

I brought a small gift for her baby boy.

Today, I received a surprise from them, a box of confectioneries.

It was wrapped with a normal wrapping paper.

Then it was wrapped by a traditional cover for appreciation.
I hide a name of sender with a sticker to be posted on my blog; yes, that is where semder’s name is written.

I ate some and these are good…too good that I cannot stop. Ahhhhh

The Shikoku Pilgrimage: Day 9 (Last Day)

Today is the last day and still need to visit 11 temples to complete.

My favorite ice cream was served as breakfast. Yeah!

No. 11 Fujiidera (Fujii Temple)

Unfortunately, it was raining.

Mummmm it was cold and difficult to conduct the ritual.

There is a gorgeous dragon drawn on the ceiling.

No. 10 Kiriharaji (Kirihara Temple)

Started the count down…

No. 9 Horinji (Horin Temple)

There are so many people trying to reserve space under the roof to practice.

No. 8 Kumadaniji (Kunadani Temple)

I thought these guardians look strong!

No. 7 Jurakuji (Juraku Temple)

The gate is called Ryugu Mon (Ryugu Gate).

Ryugu is a kingdom in the ocean.

I think this gate is cute.

No. 6 Anrakuji (Anraku Temple)

The garden is beautiful.

Today, this temple provides hot spring here.

I wish I had time to dip.

Perhaps, next time…

No. 5 Jizoji (Jizo Temple)

This temple’s Daishido is nicely decorated; so sophisticated.

I ate a local (Tokushima’s) snack at a car.

This is chikuwa (fish cake/surimi) on a bamboo.

A bamboo gives nice flavor and aroma.

No. 4 Dainichiji (Dainichi Temple)

A bowl of hot Udon noodle warmed my body. Yammy!

No. 3 Konsenji (Konsen Temple)

Another well to check my reflection.

I can see myself! Yeah!!!

No. 2 Gokurakuji (Gokuraku Temple)

This is a carrying Buddha; making a wish while carrying Buddha.

Buddha’s foot print.

Splash Fumyodo-oh (Acala) to make a wish.

No. 1 Ryozenji (Ryozen Temple)

The last temple.

I was overwhelmed; I started crying.

I felt calm and peace; the place is gorgeous and holly.

I completed…

I completed…time to go back to my ordinary life, but I won’t be the same.

I learned many things through this trip.

I enjoyed an obento (packed meal) on Shinkansen (bullet train) back home.

I’m grateful that I could conduct this exercise.

Yes, I would like to conduct this exercise again!!

The Shikoku Pilgrimage: Day 8

Again food is fresh and enjoyed very much.

The estimated time for sun rise was 6:45 am on that day, but we departed hotel at 6:30 am.

Sun was about to rise….

Sun rose while driving for a temple.

I felt so blessed when I saw sun rising: calm and peaceful.

No. 23 Yakuoji (Yakuo Temple)

We believe that at the age of 33 for women and 42 for men is unlucky age that we need to be careful.

It is good to be careful all the time, but I think this is believed because this is the age that our body system change that require attention.

Or we could blame on a bad year.

When climbing stairs, we place money every steps for offering.

There are two sets of stairs, one for women (33 stairs) and men (42 stairs).

No. 22 Byodoji (Byodo Temple)

This rope is connected to Buddha.

It’s very nice of a temple to arrange this rope to reach the entrance.
People who have difficulties to walk can be blessed at the entrance by holding this rope.

The ceiling is nicely decorated.

No. 21 Tairyuji (Tairyu Temple)

We need to take a ropeway because the temple is located on the mountain (618 m high).

Tairyuji Station

It’s so beautiful and air is fresh; I wanted to walk around the area, but needed to catch the next ropeway down.

Instead of walking, I was running to the station. hahaha

No. 20 Kakurinji (Kakurin Temple)

The symbol of this temple is a pair of cranes.

Two cranes was protecting a small statue of Golden Buddha.

A Statue of Golden Buddha was protected at this Japanese cedar by cranes here.

These trees were planted by Kobo Daishi.

No. 19 Tatsueji (Tatsue Temple)

Unfortunately, it cannot be seen in the photo, but there is a bunch of thick long hair.

This temple serves as a checkpoint as well.

If you commit bads, you cannot pass through this checkpoint.

When a lady named Okyo who cheated her husband tried to walk through this temple (checkpoint), her hair suddenly extended stopping her to walk through.

I could walk freely…that means I am okay…right?

That’s a scary story, but the temple itself is beautiful.

No. 18 Onzanji (Onzan Temple)

Originally, this temple prohibited women to enter.

However, when Kobo Daishi’s mother visited him, he conducted hard ascetic practices to lift the ban so that he could meet Mother.

Today, I (female) have no problem entering.

Lunch Time!!

Had a lunch at a self service restaurant.

There are varieties of food (fried, grilled, noodles, curry, etc.) that we can pick a plate.

Again, delicious!

No. 17 Idoji (Ido Temple)

The temple’s name IDO means a well.

There is a water well in the temple.

If you can see yourself when you look into a well, you are okay.

If you cannot see your reflection, something bad will happen to you in three years…

Yes! I could see myself; I’m safe!

No. 16 Kannonji (Kannon Temple)

No. 15 Kokubunji (Kokubun Temple)

There are four prefectures in Shikoku region/island.

Kokubunji is located in every prefecture.

As such, this is the fourth Kokubunji that I visited.

The Main Temple is under reconstruction.

I prayed at the temporary main temple.

No. 14 Jorakuji (Joraku Temple)

This is the only temple worshipping Mirokubosatsu (Maitreya) among 88 temples.

This is Araragi (Japanese Yew Tree) Daishi.

This tree is about 10 m high.

This Daishi is good for diabetes and eyes.

Can you see Daishi?

No. 13 Dainichiji (Dainichi Temple)

This temple is situated along a road.

No. 12 Shosanji (Shosan Temple)

Greeted very well. fufufu

Today, I visited 11 temples.

Checked-in at Tokushima Tokyu Rei Hotel.

I felt cold so it was nice to have a hot pot for dinner.

Winter, it is a hot pot season as well.
